1) Boeing offers to set up the production facility for F/A18 fighter jets in India
Defence major Boeing today offered to set up a manufacturing facility in India for production of its F/A 18 Super Hornet aircraft if the company gets contracts for their supply. Specifically aiming at the Navy’s planned acquisition of 57 multi-role carrier-borne fighters (MRCBF), Boeing said F/A 18 Super Hornet would be the ideal jet for the Navy’s carrier
Dan Gillian, Vice President of Boeing’s F/A 18 programme, said that “We are talking about creating a next-generation facility in India. We think the Super Hornet is the most advanced airplane that India could manufacture which will lead to the next generation of aeroplane that India will design and build here, he Further added that F/A 18 Super Hornet will not require any modifications to operate from Indian carriers and will have the lowest cost per hour flight ratio compared to other such platforms. He said Boeing was also looking at requirements of the Indian Air Force to replace its ageing Mig 21 jets. In January, the Indian Navy had launched a Request for Information (RFI) to procure 57 multi-role combat aircraft for its carrier.
2) SAAB ties up with Adani Group to build Gripen E fighter jets in India
Last year Swedish defense major SAAB announced its tie-up with Adani Group to manufacture the Gripen E fighter jets in India under the Defence Ministry’s $10 billion single-engine fighter jet procurement programme.
“SAAB is looking for long-term partnership and willing to transfer technology and skills. Gripen will be offered to the Indian government as one of the best solutions for India’s single-engine fighter aircraft,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group, here on Friday announcing the joint venture.
3) Lockheed Martin teams up with Tata to make F-16 Fighters in India
Last year The defense arm of the Tata Group has signed an agreement with American firm Lockheed Martin to produce and export new generation F-16 fighter aircraft, potentially kick-starting a mega ‘Make in India’ project days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The deal, signed at the Paris Air Show, is subject to the condition that the F-16 Block 70 fighter jet emerges as the winner of an Indian Air Force competition to procure more than 100 s.
4) Lockheed Martin Proposes Making Custom-built F-35 Fighter Jets in India
American aerospace and defense major Lockheed Martin has proposed to manufacture custom-built F-35 fighter jets in India, which its officials say will give Indian industry a unique opportunity to become part of the world’s largest fighter aircraft ecosystem.
“We plan to introduce two new words into the lexicon of international fighter aircraft manufacturing: ‘India’ and ‘exclusive’,” Vivek Lall, vice president, strategy and business development, at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics said in an interview.
