Gulfstream G200 jet splits in half in crash landing at Honduras -6 injured

A Gulfstream G200 private jet split in half as it crashes after skidding off the runway in Honduras

At least six injured

The Gulfstream jet, which was traveling from Austin, Texas

Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane registered to TVPX Aircraft Solutions Inc in North Salt Lake, Utah.

The aircraft ended up close to a busy road near Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa – which is surrounded by mountains and residential neighborhoods

President Juan Orlando Hernandez confirmed via Twitter that the injured were in a stable condition.

The aviation agency said in a statement that the crash took place at 11.15am. It added that everyone on board was taken for medical treatment and said airport operations were temporarily shut down while authorities checked to ensure conditions were safe.

Surrounded by mountains and with a very short runway, the Toncontin airport is considered one of the world’s most treacherous.

In 2008, a plane of the former airline TACA crashed in nearly the same spot. Five people died in that crash.

The government is constructing a new international airport about 50km (31 miles) away from the capital.
