Huge explosion in fuel tanks outside the Cairo airport in Egypt


On Thursday 12/7/2018, a huge explosion occurred near Cairo International Airport caused by fuel tanks. The air traffic at this airport has not been affected by the explosion like the Egyptian minister of civil aviation said.

The Egyptian local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a large explosion and fire were heard in the vicinity of Cairo airport

The Egyptian authorities began investigating the incident to determine its circumstances, while the civil protection took control of the fire in the fuel tank, which follows a private company near Cairo airport. and they pushed a 21 fire engines to control the flames, which lit the skies east of Cairo, and rushed ambulances to transport the injured and victims to hospitals.

An official security source said the explosion did not affect the air traffic at Cairo airport and did not cause the closure of air navigation, denying the explosion inside the airport.

Another security source said two consecutive explosions occurred in a petrochemical plant behind Cairo airport and not inside the airport walls, stressing the regularity of the landing and takeoff movement at the airport.
