A North American T-28B Trojan crashed and burst into flames close to the runway threshold at Anoka County–Blaine Airport, MN.

One person was injured in a plane crash according to Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany.

Podany said the crash occurred just after 11 a.m. Thursday at the north end of the airport’s runway.

The plane had one occupant who suffered serious injuries, according to Podany. The occupant was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Seeing the broken pieces of a vintage 1955 aircraft, it’s hard to believe the man flying it is likely to survive.

“We’re grateful that hopefully the pilot will recover,” said Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany. “There were serious injuries, but it certainly could have had a much worse outcome.”

Podany said two people driving past the airport at the time of the crash stopped and rendered aid to the pilot.

Podany identified the pilot as a 65-year-old man from Ham Lake. His name was not released.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
