A Sukhoi Su-34 bomber plane of the Russian Air Force was shot down by Ukrainian armed forces near Kupyansk, Kharkiv region. The fate of the pilot is unknown.

Ukrainian intelligence intercepted radio transmissions between air traffic controllers and the pilot of a Russian Aerospace Forces’ Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback strike aircraft that was shot down over Ukraine.

In the chilling intercepted radio from Russian Su-34, a pilot screamed “…I’m shot down!, … So where are we going to jump, Pash?… pull!!!” before the transmission went silent.

Radio chatter between the pilot and air traffic control also reveals that the left engine of the aircraft “caught fire” in flight after being hit by a missile.

The audio was released by Ukrainian intelligence and has not been independently verified:

The Ukrainian military have shot down Russia’s Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft near Kupiansk, Kharkiv Region.

The relevant statement was made by Yurii Kochevenko, an officer of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Just now near Kupiansk, Kharkiv Region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed Russia’s Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft,” Kochevenko wrote.

The Su-34 was first manufactured by Soviet Russia in the early 1990s but is still one of Russia’s leading fighter jets. There have been reports in the past citing the use of rudimentary GPS receivers on the Su-34 jets during the war in Syria.
