People’s Liberation Army Air Force Chengdu J-7 crashed into a residential area near Laohekou Air Base. The pilot ejected and suffered minor injuries.

A fire erupted, buildings were destroyed, two residents were injured, and one resident died as a result of the crash.

An explosion was reported in Laohekou, Xiangyang City. Xiangyang Emergency Management Bureau confirmed that an incident occurred in the area.

Videos and photos that emerged on social media showed some houses on fire as the plane crashed into the residential area.

Local emergency departments have rushed to the scene as soon as they received the call and will release follow-up information as soon as possible.

The cause of the crash and related casualties is under investigation, with emergency response underway, state media said.
