“During the flights, pilots checked aircraft performances, smart data management system, operation of on-board systems, including armament at high temperatures, complicated underlying surface and other factors,” said in a statement.
A Russian Air Force official confirmed that the Su-57, in its first combat operation, was used over Syria during operations against the Islamic State (IS) and other militants.
Crews of newest Russian-made Su-57 5th-generation fighter jet made over 10 sorties in Syria.
“Su-57 is the Russian advanced air complex of the fifth generation designed for elimination of all types of air, ground and maritime targets. It high maneuverability, supersonic capabilities as well as modern on-board systems and stealth capability provides high efficiency and air superiority,” – also added in a statement.
The Jets are seen taking off from an undisclosed location – presumably, Russia’s Khmeimim air base in Syria’s northeast – before flying up.
The jets arrived in the country on or about Feb. 23, 2018, and were officially only there for two days, but we don’t know if this means approximately 48 hours in total, two nights, or some other exact length of time. Russia now says the aircraft together flew “more than 10 sorties” in that time, which would average out to more than 2.5 sorties per plane, per day if the deployment period is accurate.
The video does not show either of the aircraft carrying bombs or missiles externally and there is no strike footage included among the clips. It is, of course, possible that the jets exclusively used weapons carried internally to strike rebel positions.
