Heavy rains lashed the city, causing flash flooding that stranded motorists in their submerged vehicles, forced the closure of key transportation infrastructure and flooded people’s homes.
Up to 70 millimeters of rain fell on some parts of the city. The airport is flooded and affected flight schedules causing delays.
The airport ceased operations at 6:40 pm due to flooded runways, resulting in the cancelation of 18 flights. About 150 Mexico City-bound flights were either diverted to other airports including Querétaro, Toluca, Morelia, Guadalajara, Cancún and Acapulco, or didn’t take off.

Heavy rain caused delays in the departure and arrival of several flights at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai
Sources said that while 89 flights arrived late by around 25 minutes or more, as many as 318 departures suffered an average delay of 53 minutes. Ixigo CEO Aloke Bajpai said the previous day witnessed similar delays too, with 28% of all flights being hit by the incessant rain.
Apart from Airport heavy rain thrown the suburban railway out of gear and slowing down vehicular traffic on flooded streets. There was no immediate sign of respite either, with private weather forecasting agency Skymet predicting that the rainfall will exceed 150 mm in the next 24 hours.
