On February 26, 2019, Balakot airstrike was conducted by India when Indian warplanes crossed the de facto border in the disputed region of Kashmir and dropped bombs in the vicinity of the town of Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.
The following day, February 27, in a tit-for-tat airstrike, Pakistan retaliated, causing an Indian warplane to be shot down and it’s pilot to be taken prisoner by the Pakistan military before being returned on March 1.

In response to PAF strikes this morning as released by MoFA, IAF crossed LOC. PAF shot down two Indian aircrafts inside Pakistani airspace. One of the aircraft fell inside AJ&K while other fell inside IOK. One Indian pilot arrested by troops on ground while two in the area.

The government of Pakistan named the pilots who shot down two Indian warplanes
“Two Indian planes were shot down by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on February 27,” Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told Parliament
He named them as Squadron Leader Hassan Siddiqui and Wing Commander Nauman Ali Khan, saying he wanted to “pay tribute” to them both.
According to Pakistan media sources Squadron Leader Hassan Siddiqui Shot down Indian Air Force MiG-21 bison piloted by wing-commander Abhinandan Varthaman and Wing Commander Nauman Ali Khan shot down Indian Air Force SU-30MKI
Indian MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar confirms PAF have shot down IAF MIG-21 fighter jet and captured pilot but he denies the claims of SU-30 MKI shot down by PAF.
Indian Air Force also claimed that Pakistani F-16 was shot down during the dog fight in February
