A U.S. Air Force T-38C Talon II training jet crashes in a remote area near the Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi
The T-38C Talon II crashed about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Columbus Air Force Base officials said in a statement.
Both pilots ejected safely from the aircraft
The plane went down in a wooded area just outside the base’s fenceline, north of the city of Columbus.
The two pilots were rushed to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Air Force will investigate the causes of the crash, releasing a report later.
The Air Force crash today marks the fifth U.S. Air Force non-combat aviation crash of 2018 versus seven for all of last year
Columbus Air Force Base trains pilots on a variety of aircraft, with more advanced trainees learning on the T-38C.
