Cirrus SR-22 plane crashed at Orange Airport pilot and instructor injured

Light aircraft Cirrus SR-22 crashed at Orange Airport in western New South Wales

Crashed happened at about 7:00 pm last night

Pilot Ben Wheeler The owner of the plane and instructor Catherine Fitzsimons are still in a critical condition after a plane crash

Catherine Fitzsimons works for flight training organization, Ward Air, which is based in Bathurst.

The four-seater was doing circuits when it crashed on the northern side of the runway and burst into flames on impact.

The pilot and instructor, both in their 40s

Both suffered critical burns to their arms, legs, scalp, and airways, and also possible fractures

Ther are getting treatment in  Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital.

Investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are traveling to Orange today to examine the area.

The Orange Airport is operating as normal, and there are no interruptions to scheduled flights.
