Fighter jet crashed on final approach about 2 km from Ozerne Airfield, Zhitomir Region, after performing a training flight.

The pilot was killed in the crash. The Ukrainian General Staff said the Sukhoi Su-27 went down while returning from a routine flight to its base in the northern region of Zhytomyr.

“On December 15, 2018 in the Zhytomyr region around 15 hours … when approaching the landing plane crashed Su-27. The pilot was killed, “- said in a message on Facebook.

The circumstances and causes of the incident are being investigated,” the report says.

Su-27 fighter jets were designed by the Soviet Union and continue to be built by Russia.

This is the second air crash in the Ukrainian Air Force recently. In October, the Su-27UB crashed in the Vinnitsa region, carrying out a flight in the framework of the joint exercise with NATO “Clear Sky – 2018”. Then both of those aboard the pilot, Ivan Petrenko, head of aviation of the Vostok air command, and Seth Nehring, lieutenant colonel of the US National Guard, was killed.

The investigation stated that it was considering four versions – the human factor, technical failure, possible refueling of the aircraft with low-quality fuel, and weather conditions. The results of the investigation have not yet been reported.
