Two Dead & Five Injured In French Military Helicopter Crash

The Aérospatiale AS 532UL Cougar military helicopter from the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment (RHC) of Pau crashed under unknown circumstances during a training exercise.

Two occupants died and five were injured. Two of the injured were taken care of by the rescue team while they were in a state of absolute emergency.

The accident occurred Wednesday around 4.30 p.m. in this town located 22 km north-east of Tarbes , near the limits of the Gers department.

Two of the injured were evacuated by helicopters, two by road, to the hospitals of Tarbes and Toulouse, according to the prefecture.

The Helicopter was a Cougar belonging to the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment (RHC) of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

This maneuver helicopter, which can carry both men and equipment, was carrying out an exercise in the area, said Army spokesman Benoît Brulon.

An investigation was opened to determine the causes of the accident.
