An Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) KAI T-50i Golden Eagle, operated by SkU15 “The Typhoons”, skidded off the runway during takeoff at Madiun-Iswahyudi Airport (WARI), East Java. The instructor and trainee pilot suffered minor injuries.

“The aircraft was conducting a routine training exercise,” Air Force Spokesman First Marshal Fajar Adriyanto told Kompas.com on Monday.

Fajar explained that the plane was piloted by a flight cadet from the Indonesian Air Force who was accompanied by one of the instructors. He said the aircraft skidded when it was about to take off.

“The cadet pilot was in front and the instructor behind,” he said.

Fajar added that the two pilots managed to escape from the plane.

“They were brought to the hospital for further treatment as we followed the procedure. They suffered minor injuries,” said Fajar.

He said that the Indonesian Air Force is currently investigating the cause of the incident. The investigation is carried out internally by the Indonesian Air Force.
