Iran will unveil a new fighter jet next week and developing missile capabilities will remain Tehran’s top priority, the defense minister was quoted as saying by Fars news agency on Saturday.

“We will present a plane on National Defense Industry Day, and people will see it fly, and the equipment designed for it,” Brigadier General Amir Hatami said.

Iran IAIO Qaher-313 fifth-generation fighter jet

Iran unveiled in 2013 what it said was a new, domestically built fighter jet, called Qaher 313, but some experts expressed doubts about the viability of the aircraft at the time. The IAIO Qaher-313  is a planned Iranian single-seat stealth fighter aircraft

Iran’s functional air force has been limited to perhaps as few as a few dozen strike aircraft, either Russian or aging U.S. models acquired before the 1979 Iranian revolution.

The Islamic Republic News Agency reported Friday that Iran would also unveil a domestic version of the Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile system, dubbed Bavar 373, by March 20, 2019. Bavar 373 will become operational in the near future, as the project was reportedly progressing as scheduled according to sources.

Iran has developed a large domestic arms industry in the face of international sanctions and embargoes that have barred it from importing many weapons

  Iran HESA Saeqeh

The HESA Saeqeh is an Iranian built single-seat jet fighter, derived from the American Northrop F-5. A joint product of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force and the Iranian Ministry of Defence, it is the second generation of the Iranian Azarakhsh fighter. Saeqeh aircraft were tested successfully in Iran 20 September 2007.

A new version was introduced in 2015 with 2 seats, more advanced weapon systems, electronics, and avionics. This model can also be used for training purposes.

 

Iran IAIO Qaher-313 fifth-generation fighter jet

The IAIO Qaher-313  is a planned Iranian single-seat stealth fighter aircraft that was publicly announced on 1 February 2013. The aircraft design is a canard configuration. It is described as a stealth fighter built with advanced materials, a very low radar signature and with low-altitude operations capability. It was also claimed that the Qaher can take off and land on short runways and has “easy maintenance”.

Qaher has a payload capacity of carrying two 2000 pound bombs, or greater number of smaller smart guided missiles, or at least 6 air-to-air missiles in the category of the PL-12.It features a downward wingtip device which Flightglobal.com noted vaguely resembles the Boeing Bird of Prey prototype

On 5 March 2017, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan stated that the Qaher-313 was ready for flight testing. It was described by the Fars News Agency as a “logistic aircraft for short distances” and a “light fighter jet used for military and training operations”.

On 15 April 2017, the prototype Qaher-313 conducted taxi tests.
