18 dead in a Ethiopian Air Force DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft Crash

 

An Ethiopian Air Force de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter plane crashed with 18 people onboard near east Shoa zone, Oromia ( Ethiopia)

Preliminary reports indicated that a DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft crashed in Ethiopia. All those on board, 15 members of the Ethiopian defense force and three civilians were killed. Some reports suggest 17 instead of 18 persons died in the crash.
Many news outlets also report that a helicopter was involved. However, photos posted by state-affiliated fanabc.com show the wreckage of a DHC-6.

According to local news agency ENA  the ET-AIU plane crashed just 100 km (62 miles) from the capital Addis Ababa as it burned mid-air above the East Shewa Zone.

The plane had departed from Dire Dawa town in the eastern part, according to the state-run Ethiopian News Agency.

The news agency indicated that the plane crashed at a place called Nannawa area Lumme district near Modjo town, at around 10.30am local time and burst into flames, killing all the 17 people aboard.

All those on board- 15 members of the defense force and three civilians- were killed. Police commander Aschalew Alemu disclose that two women and two children were among the causalities.

The remains of all the causalities were later taken away by two military choppers, according to Mr Aschalew.

Authorities said they were investigating the cause of the Dash 6 airplane crash.
