On 18 June 2017, An unmanned Iranian drone allegedly on a spying mission was shot down by a PAF JF-17 Thunder fighter jet in Balochistan Panjgur area 45km inside Pak territory.
Iranian S-129 UAV was operating deep inside Pakistani airspace.
Air Defence units of Pakistan air force spotted Iranian drone and issued an Air Defence alert.
JF-17 Thunder of No. 2 Sqn allocated at PAF Base Masroor responded to Air Defence alert and shoot down UAV at 3 am in Parom area of Panjgur district.
Wreckage of Iranian S-129 UAV was later recovered by local security forces.
PAF later confirmed that JF-17 thunder has scored its First air to air kill.
The Shahed 129 is an Iranian single-engine medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) designed by Shahed Aviation Industries for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Shahed 129 is capable of combat and reconnaissance missions and has an endurance of 24 hours; it is similar in size, shape and role to the American MQ-1 Predator and is widely considered the most capable drone in Iranian service.
