A French Air Force Mirage 2000-5F, operated by EC 01.002 “Cigognes” crashed in a forest near Luxeuil-les-Bains, Haute-Saône, after a technical incident.
The pilot ejected after directing his plane towards a forest, with no major damage to the ground, and survived.
The accident occurred at 2:45 p.m., a pilot of a Mirage 2000-5 fighter plane from the 1/2 “Cigognes” fighter squadron at Air Base 116 (BA 116) in Luxeuil-Saint Sauveur was forced to eject 5 kilometers north of the BA 116 near the Banney forest between Luxeuil and Fontaine-les-Luxeuil.
The aircraft crashed in a wooded area, it was returning to the base.
The area is currently being secured. Safety and legal investigations are open to shed light on the reasons for this accident.
