Hellenic Air Force Intercepts Turkish Air Force F-16 Fighter Jets Over Greek Islands

Two Turkish F-16 fighter jets flew over the eastern Aegean islet of Agathonisi on Monday and were intercepted by Greek counterparts. The Hellenic National Defense General Staff said the Turkish planes had entered Athens’ flight-information region without submitting a flight plan, according to Greek media outlet Ekathimerini.

Flights by Turkish military aircraft over Greek islands in the Aegean continue on daily basis, according to the latest report from the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS).

A pair of Turkish fighter jets infringed the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) on Wednesday and flew over Farmakonissi at 09:55 at 18.000 feet.

Additionally, on Tuesday a pair of Turkish F-16s flew over the islands of Lipsi, Arkii, Makronissi, Anthropophagi and Fourni while on Monday morning a pair of Turkish fighter jets flew over Agathonissi.

In all cases, the Turkish military aircraft were recognised and intercepted by Greek military planes in accordance with international rules.

Second pair of Turkish F-16s infringe Athens FIR on Wednesday

A second pair of Turkish military aircraft on Wednesday at 15:12 infringed the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) and then flew over the islet Ro at 18,000 feet.

The Turkish F-16s were recognised and intercepted by Greek Hellenic Air Force planes, according with international rules, the Hellenic National Defence General Staff said.

Earlier on Wednesday, a pair of Turkish fighter jets infringed the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) and flew over Farmakonissi at 09:55 at 18.000 feet.
