CH-47 Chinook is a twin-engined, tandem rotor, heavy-lift helicopter developed by American rotorcraft company Vertol and currently manufactured by Boeing Vertol (later known as Boeing Rotorcraft Systems).
Despite the arms embargo in place upon Iran, the Iran Helicopter Support and Renewal Company (IHSRC) has completely overhauled, re-built and reverse-engineered some Iranian Chinooks and has managed to keep its Chinook fleet operational.
Currently, 20 to 45 Chinooks are operational in Iran operated by its Army and Air Force.
