AFTER MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS ONE OF THE NAVY’S TOP AVIATORS, PETE “MAVERICK” MITCHELL IS BACK.

A lot has changed in the 34 years since the first Top Gun film, but one thing has remained the same. Cruise is still wearing the Ray-Ban Aviator Classic sunglasses he had in the 1986 original.

Ray-Ban RB3025 classic aviator sunglasses are the glasses worn by Maverick (Tom Cruise) as seen in Top Gun: Maverick trailer.

Along with Cruise, his old teeth-chomping adversary Val Kilmer, and a sweaty undercurrent of latent homoeroticism, the sequel is bringing back another vital piece of the Top Gun puzzle: Maverick’s iconic Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses.

In the seven months after the first film dropped in 1986, sales of aviators reportedly jumped 40%. It’s easy to see why: everybody, a slightly damp Tom Cruise especially included, looks great in a pair of aviators. The teardrop lenses flatter all face shapes, and the slender metal frames sync up perfectly with everything from a tight white tee and Levi’s to a heavily starched and pressed dress uniform. Like Cruise himself, they’re ageless and eternal.

Originally designed for US pilots in 1937, the Ray-Ban Aviator Classic is now one of the world’s most iconic pair of sunglasses. They’re a timeless model combining great aviator styling with exceptional comfort, quality and performance.

Along with other great Ray-Ban styles, the Aviator (model RB3025) will soon be available to buy online and in-store at Vision Express. As well as the classic gold frame, our Aviators are available in silver, gunmetal, bordeaux and blue.

There’s an equally wide choice of lens colors too, all offering 100% UV protection. You can choose from classic green (as worn by Tom ‘Maverick’ Cruise), light brown, light blue, silver purple and bronze blue, with lens options including graduated, mirrored or polarised.

Top Gun sequel dubbed Top Gun: “Maverick”  slated for release on June 24, 2020. Top Gun: Maverick will reportedly revolve around Tom Cruise’s Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he trains Bradley Bradshaw who is a pilot trainee, as well as the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (who was played by Anthony Edwards in the original 1986 film).

Bradshaw will be played by actor Miles Teller. Additionally, the new film will also feature Val Kilmer returning as Commander Thomas “Iceman” Kazansky, plus Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, and Ed Harris will all also be appearing.
