Mexican Air Force Bell 206L LongRanger Helicopter Crashes in Tamazula Leaves Pilot Dead

The secretary of the National Defense (Sedena), Luis Crescencio Sandoval, confirmed the crash of a Bell 206 helicopter, registration 1679, of the Mexican Air Force in the municipality of Tamazula, Durango, in which the pilot was killed.

The accident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. when they performed operations at a point of difficult access in the Sierra Madre Occidental, and the other three crew members were unharmed, Sedena said.

General Luis Crescencio Sandoval lamented the death of the pilot and sent his condolences to the family, who he said will be given all the necessary support.

The head of Sedena specified that the accident occurred while fumigation operations were carried out in enervating plantations.

A UH60 helicopter was immediately deployed with medical personnel in search and rescue functions, as well as two motorized ground reaction forces, to assist in the location and relief activities and it is reported that the injured elements were already transferred to receive hospital care .

The aircraft carried out fumigation work on drug plantations, but due to a mechanical failure in the engines they had to make an emergency landing, not being able to land safely, as it collapsed.
